Between 1998 and 2000, we created a suite of interactive resources (such as simulations, interactive exercises, experiments, tasks, etc.) designed to assist teachers and students of physical sciences at both 11-16 and A-level. To achieve this, we collaborated with enthusiastic science teachers in the region who provided "storyboards" for these resources. The storyboards were then coded into computer format by our team of experienced developers. We had already produced Materials MATTER in Schools - an interactive CD-ROM is designed to help pupils at key stages 3 and 4 with a number of important materials-related concepts in the national curriculum for science. We were then particularly keen to produce similar resources for Physics and Chemistry A-level. In addition to producing software, we will also be evaluating its impact in the classroom. MATTER will therefore be approaching a number of Merseyside schools to arrange trials of the new materials with the pupils. Note: Active development of this site finished in 2000. However, it still continues to attract more and more users, and so of course MATTER plans to continue hosting the site indefinitely. And we still really like to hear from those of you - teachers, students and parents - who have enjoyed using it. September 2003 |
