Definitions

The refractive index of a pair of a materials is a constant, denoted by 1n2. From the previous experiment, the refractive index of water relative to air, AIRnWATER, is approximately 1.33.

The ratio

sin iAIR : sin iWATER = 1.33

for light going from air to water is an example of Snell's Law.
