| Beyond the elastic limit the material undergoes plastic
deformation. Unlike elastic deformation, plastic deformation is not recoverable, i.e. the
change is permanent. Ductile materials undergo
large plastic deformations and waisting before fracturing; brittle materials undergo
very little plastic deformation.
