Definitions imageThe straight line graph shows us that the charge stored on the capacitor plates depends directly on the voltage applied across its plates:

Another way of saying this is:
Q / V = constant

This constant is the amount of charge stored on the plates for each volt applied across them:

Q / V = C
This is called the capacitance, C, and is measured in SI units called farad, F.
